Challenge

  • Scaling a national network: Reece's National Distribution Centre in Melbourne services branches and customer orders across Australia and New Zealand, requiring a picking process that could scale with the network.

  • Slow onboarding from paper and RF-assisted processes: the previous picking process required operators to read and interpret instructions manually.

  • Improving safety on the floor: pickers work on mobile pallet movers, so any process that put a device in their hands or a screen in front of them was a risk.

Solution

  • Talkman A730 and A730x voice devices: voice prompts guide every pick, with no device to hold and no screen to read.

  • Workflow-led picking: screenless, paperless step-by-step guidance through location validation and quantity checks.

  • Consistency across sites: the same voice process runs across all locations, so pickers can move between sites and immediately know how the system works.

“Having that partnership [with Infios] goes both ways. If there's something new and we need help with, it's not a case of needing a purchase order before they'll help. We've been able to grow with the relationship rather than it just being transactional.”
